“Valley of flowers” – Who knew the result of a lost route would led to the discovery of this unique and beautiful valley which remained unexplored by the very own locals and inhabitants.This Valley of Flowers was discovered by a team of 6 British mountaineers in the year 1931 including R.L. Holdsworth and Frank S. Smith who lost their route on their way back from mount Kamet and happened to come across the beautiful Bhyundar valley. After returning Frank S. Smith wrote his book ‘Valley of Flowers’ which gave this name to the valley.

This trek is one of the popular Indian treks and has gained huge popularity as a beginners trek in the Uttarakhand region as it a moderate level trek.
2) A World Heritage site
In 1982, the flowery heaven was declared Valley of Flowers National Park preserving more than 600 plant species and many animals, birds and butterflies. Valley of Flowers National Park is declared as World Heritage site by UNESCO along with Nanda Devi National Park.
If you are a Himalayan lover, you will love this trek. Wandering among the snow covered mountains and drinking nectar off numerous waterfalls in the valley is an experience of a lifetime. This valley is also surrounded by Zanskar and Greater Himalayan ranges in North and South.
4) Colorful Paradise
The best time to visit Valley of flowers trek is from July till end of August when the flower blooms to its youth. During this time, visitors get to witness different colors and shades in Valley of flowers changing from white, green, yellow and brown. Pink, blue and purple are the dominant colors.
5) Hemkund Sahib
This trek also takes you to the Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib Ji, a worship of worship and pilgrimage for the Sikhs. Located in the Himalayas at a height of 15197 feet, every year, more than 150,000 pilgrims reach here to offer their prayers on the banks of still the blue Hemkund lake.

This Valley is accessible only from June and by the end of June the flowers start reaching its youth and blossoms fully. This is when the Valley transforms from “white snow capped” to Valley of flowers” showing new colors every day. Best time is July to September.
