Being a Pravasi Bengali, if someone asks me what is that one thing that I miss living away from Kolkata or Bengal, is “Jhaal Muri”

If you are a Bengali or ever been to or lived anywhere in West Bengal then you have definitely heard of this streetfood “Jhaal Muri”

Exactly looks similar to “Bhel”, the word “Jhaal” means spicy and “Muri” is puffed rice. “Jhaal Muri”is the most popular snack food on the streets of Kolkata.

I remember years back while doing our Bengal train trips from Gujarat, I anxiously used to wait our train to reach Bengal for this tasty snack. A very simple yet delicious snack, can be very easily prepared at home. A little mustard oil makes this recipe a typical Bengali snack.

Check this very simple recipe I found on eat-hearty.blogspot.in

The problem with having this delicacy everyday was that eventually it lost its novelty. It stopped being ‘yum’. 😀 I don’t know when was the last time I had jhaal muri or, bhel puri or, paani puri.
