Baroda Musuem and Picture Gallery

The Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, located at Sayajibaug was founded in 1887 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad.

Timings: The museum is open on all days from 10:30 am till 5:00 pm except government holidays.

Tickets : Entry for Indians: Rs. 10/-, for Foreigners: Rs. 200/-.For Photography, one has to get a separate ticket costing Rs 100/-.

The musuem has a wide range of collections from sculptures, textiles, zoology, Natural history, earth sciences etc. One of the highlight is the 22m long blue-whale skeleton found in 1972 at the mouth of the River Mahi.

    When I was a Junior Architect, I had a boss from Baroda or Vadodara. He had graduated from MS University and was a fan of the maharaja. With him I visited his palace, but missed the museum. Now I know what I missed!

    It was a treat to see the images of the museum! It’s awesome! Thanks a lot for this post!

    PS: I should reimburse you the Rs 100, which you paid for the photography rights, just for the sheer pleasure and beauty! 😀
