One amazing melange of People, Cattles and Colors – The Pushkar Fair

Welcome to this one big assemblage of people in Pushkar, Rajasthan, India. The five day annual mela (known in the local language) is one of the largest camel fair in the world, taking place from Kartik Ekadashi to Kartik Purnima, Oct-Nov in Hindu Calender.

This was my first time in Pushkar and I got a good chance to see such diversity of people coming from all over the world. It is a gathering where you see cattles, people, music, shows, concerts, food and more. Be ready to face a huge crowd in the streets of Pushkar during mela.

I am just a passionate traveler who enjoys going to places, so there is not much tips I can give you about the fair since it is more about buying and selling of cattles or a Photographers Meet. Although there are many travelers who come with open mind only to see the fair.

Take a camel ride and feel the very essence of the fair, this is a must. They charged us Rs 250 for a ride and me with another traveler I met at Pushkar, took a ride so that became Rs 125/- head. They took us around for 30-40 minutes but if you are good at bargaining you can get a better deal also.

If you are someone who does not like crowd, I am not sure if you are going to have a good time. But I recommend to give it a try for many reasons, you know only when you are there.

Also check out my other posts on Pushkar and go through my Pictures below  I took at the Fair. Do let me know if you like them.
