Colours of Navratri – Exploring Nava Bazaar of Vadodara

Vadodara is known as “Sanskarinagri”- the cultural city. When you talk about cultures, its all about festivals, food, language and people.

Navratri is one of the most celebrated festivals of Gujarat. If you have lived here you probably know how enthusiastically the barodians celebrate all the festivals, but the love for Navratri shows when the crazy Navratri fanatic barodians start talking about it some 6 months before it actually starts. Yes people here save only so they can get their perfect Ghaghras Cholis and Kurtas for the 9 days. I have such friends who are this mad.

Before Navratri I went out to Nava Bazaar for some shopping and was happy to capture the colours of the Bazaar. Nava Bazaar is probably the place where the barodians will be running to get their best outfits. Mangal Bazaar, Mandvi are also some of the options which can be tried out. Its in the Old city where  you may get the things in reasonable rates, even better for people with good bargaining skills. Though some shops stick to fixed rate also. Park your vehicles at some safe place and go shopping on foot as this is  a small market but good enough to get all those that you may need for Navratri.
